Memory Bears and Keepsakes
The creative process
First of all I discuss with the clients the clothing that they would like me to incorporate, and I suggest a suitable design that will work best with that fabric.
I also like to know a little information about the loved one who has passed away and maybe have a photo to keep beside me as I work.
· Every bear has between 50 and 80 separate pieces
· All fabric pieces are stabilised using fusible cotton interfacing
· Head, leg and arm joints are made from MDF discs and are attached using roofing bolts
· All machined seams are double sewn using extra strong upholstery thread
· Quality English glass eyes are sewn in, unless otherwise stated
· Wool mix felt is used for the muzzle and paw pads
· Names and dates can be incorporated into the paw pads
· Precious items, such as rings, can be inserted into a felt heart, which can then be sewn into the body of the bear
· I use polyester filling throughout
As you can see, I don't just make traditional teddy bears. I also make animals in the form of cuddle dolls and shelf sitters. I can also incorporate your fabric into pictures and mini quilts.
As an ex horse owner, I also make ponies, either 4-legged or as cuddle dolls, that have the colourings and markings of your much loved horse.
